A RELATED MATTERBrent Collins
For the most part we acquire our possessions one by one as they present themselves, as we have the means, and/or as we have the need for them. The physical landscapes of our lives are built with these varied pieces from different times and contexts, and with different purposes. A Related Matter is a project devoted to discovering ways in which objects interact with one another. Aimed at creating integrative functional objects with which a user can “play” with his or her environment (by connecting, organizing, or redefining the objects contained therein,) the project simultaneously explores the design language of “piecing,” the user experience of play, and the abstract functionality of the objects in our daily lives.

Brent Collins was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1984. Collins graduated in 2007 from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in fine art printmaking, taking with him a genuine love of machines, methodologies, workflows, processes and tools. He is increasingly interested in the areas of physical computing, systems design, and the study of human creativity. Mr. Collins plans on living in Brooklyn, NY for the foreseeable future as he works toward an ultimate goal of developing an expressive medium for the facilitation of creativity and innovation.
